Natural Colors (+ contrast & sharpness)

Preset for Battlefield 4
Created by r3dfield
Added Nov. 3, 2013
Shader used: SweetFX 1.5
Preset description:
A more natural color palette, better contrast and sharpness! An improved version of my old BF3 natual settings. - FULL DOWNLOAD (settings included): http://dropcanvas.com/c1s3c - High-res comparison directlink: http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/screenshot/5300/full/ - - IMPORTANT NOTES. PLEASE READ: - - 1. INSTALLATION: Download and unpack the RAR file into your BF4 main game folder (where the bf4.exe is located) - that's it! - 2. It's using x64 dlls, so please run BF4 in x64! - 3. You MUST close all other overlay tools, like FRAPS or Afterburner - they cause startup errors. If you wanna show FPS, use the BF4 built-in console command (perfOverlay.drawfps 1) - 4. Toggle ON/OFF is on "SCROLL LOCK" key. Reload Shader is "PAUSE/BREAK" and taking Screenshots on "PRINT" key. - 5. SweetFX does officially NOT yet work under Windows 8.1! If you're an 8.1 user, try the following experimental version and just insert my settings (click on "Download preset" and overwrite the original "SweetFX_settings.txt"! I have NOT tested my settings with this version and I don't know if it has the same result. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24697861/SweetFX%2BEFX%20Beta%20win%208.1.rar

May cause banding artifacts. #define USE_DITHER 1 //[0 or 1] Dither : Applies dithering to simulate more colors than your monitor can display. This lessens banding artifacts (mostly caused by Vignette) #define USE_BORDER 0 //[0 or 1] Border : Makes the screenedge black as a workaround for the bright edge that forcing some AA modes sometimes causes. #define USE_SPLITSCREEN 0 //[0 or 1] Splitscreen : Enables the before-and-after splitscreen comparison mode. #define USE_CUSTOM 0 //[0 or 1] Custom : Write your own shader by editing custom.h, and then enable it here. /*-----------------------------------------------------------. / SMAA Anti-aliasing settings / '-----------------------------------------------------------*/ #define SMAA_THRESHOLD 0.10 //[0.05 to 0.20] Edge detection threshold. Thank you r3dfield! I finally got it to work with Win8.1 x64 last night (4/16/14). By using the SweetFX+EFX Beta Win8.1.rar and your SweetFX_settings file (Download Preset). I'd admit, I did have issues at first, because I had so many different versions of files, I then deleted everything. I then extracted those SweetFX+EFX Beta Win8.1 files and then copied and pasted your settings file over top of the existing one, then viola! It worked!
Thank you - 3ndure1T

@lycanwrath

and be sure your monitor display is calibrated correctly in brightness, contrast, colors and sharpness. Best way to do that is using the Burosch Calibration pictures for example. A well calibrated screen should be.

@lycanwrath

You can either set #define USE_CURVES from 1 to 0 to disable it completely...or just lower the contrast value from #define Curves_contrast 0.23 to something lower...like 0.10 for example. Find your own setting.

Hi man,

I like the colors very much, but find the contrast a bit too high.

Something that makes the shadows more easier to the eyes (more visibility) would be nice ;)

@Agost: Ya, cool - have fun :) How I said...you can set "#define USE_GAUSSIAN" to 1 and play around with "#define GaussStrength 0.013" - so the lights are brighter, with more bloom. 0.03 is pretty cool, but to intense in some areas :)

Its works. Very thanks ;) Awesome work. I edit it myselft for add a few bloom and some contrast to look a few darkeer (more realistic on afternoons) I did it because of multiplayer optimization.

@martin93831: I just recognized that "#define Saturation" in the Tonemap Settings is set to 0.20! If you activate the Tonemap Settings to lower gamma, you should set Saturation to 0.0, otherwise it's slightly more colorful, too ;) Up to you.

r3dfield
6 Nov 17:23 CET

@martin93831: The easiest way to change gamma is to activate the Tonemap Settings and lower gamma.

Just set "#define USE_TONEMAP" to 1, so it's activated. Then go to Tonemap Settings and change "#define Gamma 1.0" to something lower, like 0.8 or 0.9 for example. Try to find the right value for you.

@Agost: No it's the "roll" button...it's between print and pause. Some keyboards have no roll button...maybe yours is one of them :)

If you wanna change the button to insert (standard), then open my settings.txt, scroll to the bottom and change "key_toggle_sweetfx = 145" from 145 to 45! (45 is the insert key). So here's the whole standard button config, you can use this!

// key_toggle_sweetfx = 45
// key_screenshot = 35
// key_reload_sweetfx = 46

5 Nov 19:33 CET

@martin93831: You can also download the basic SweetFX version from the far bottom link. There you have 32 and 64 bit files and you can use whatever you want. Just download my settings.txt and replace the original one.

r3dfield
5 Nov 19:19 CET

@Signex: No, I don't think so - cuz I play originals and Ghosts will use the same anti-cheat techs as Black Ops 2...like VAC + some server side tools. I don't wanna risk a ban. It's safe for BF4.

r3dfield
5 Nov 19:15 CET

@martin93831: Install folder doesn't matter. Just extract the RAR file content (SweetFX Folder, 2 dlls and 2 txt files) into your BF4 main folder. Be sure to run BF4 as x64 (right click on BF4 in origin, game properties, set run as x64 and disable Origin Overlay in game).

Please close all other overlay applications like FRAPS, because they can cause errors with BF4 and SweetFX. FRAPS is causing a startup crash for example. BF4 and SweetFX can be a bit tricky.
