SweetFX is bannable in wow?
Posted 9 years, 4 months ago
One part of Blizzard Terms of Use say: "Modify or cause to be modified any files that are a part of the Game Client or the Service in any way not expressly authorized by Blizzard;" This is what Terms of Use say about WoW... so is there any expert to tell me why sweetFX is not bannable in wow since it modifies files?

Why do you think it modifies files?

"...in any way" , so basically sweetFX might not modify blizzard wow files directly, but it does changes how the game looks. So, I just wanted to be sure that it's not messing with wow files, and that it's not bannable.

Well, technically, by the same logic graphics drivers should be illegal too. But they can ban you for any reason, they're a private company after all. So no one can say for sure that you will or won't get banned.

This is what I get from blizzard support answer: "The kinds of things that can get an account banned are the ones that provide some kind of in-game advantage or automates a part of the game so it can be done without a player. If this mod isn't doing those types of things, it should be fine. I'm afraid that we don't keep a list of addons that are valid, and those that are not, so I cannot say for sure whether Sweetfx is allowed since you know what it is, and how it works, you should be able to work out whether it fits the statement above :)" so sweetfx should be fine to use with blizzard wow

Just for clarification, it doesn't modify any files at all. Think of SweetFX as putting on a pair of sunglasses. You see the world differently, but the sunglasses themselves don't actually modify the world, just your perception. That's exactly what SweetFX does. It essentially lies between what the game is telling you that you see and what your monitor displays. The only thing it modifies is your perception of the game world.
